FEATURED PHOTO

Here in Montana, just about any time of day is great for taking photos. Being a "morning person" all my life, it's my very favorite time of day to shoot. I always try to get to my destination before the sun comes up, in order to catch the first golden rays as the sun tops the mountains. Even before the sun rises you can get some great shots. This one was taken last year in May, at Lee Metcalf Wildlife Refuge in Stevensville. The temperatures were forecast to be in the low 60s, but at that time of year it can still be pretty chilly at night. The combination of such extremes makes for some great mist and fog in the early morning hours, and I wanted to photograph the cattails silhouetted in the mist. It was still dark - and COLD - when I arrived, but patience paid off and I got some nice shots that morning!
